Great news making waves across the mighty Brahmaputra, as its island Majuli has now been granted with the district status. The Assam government has decided to make the world’s largest river island, Majuli, the newest district of the state.

This news shall bring rays of new hopes among the inhabitants of this beautiful island. It is a big step for the entire island, as this shall boost the working capabilities of the people of Majuli.  The river island of about 400 sq km area has been a part of the Jorhat district and is now the 34th district of the state.

The state’s Minister for Education, Health and Finance, Himanta Biswa Sarma extended his warm wishes to the people of Majuli. He has also mentioned that there shall be improvement in access of citizens to public service delivery points and in the lives of the inhabitants. He also extended compliments to the state’s CM Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, for this decision.

Majuli now becomes the first river island district of India. Enchanting with its bewildering beauty, Majuli, has always been an asset to the entire state as well as to the country. We surely hope it shall flourish and reach newer heights as an independent district hereafter.
